La Quinta Inn Scotsdale - Click to Enlarge After a good nights sleep I woke up and opened the curtains to brilliant sun shine, very different to the previous morning's cold wet and gray start in England. I then got my stuff together for the days riding, and had breakfast at the hotels breakfast buffet. The buffet was quite good and included waffles, sausages, cereals, fruit, juice etc. La Quinta Inn Scotsdale Pool - Click to Enlarge

I then drove over to Steve's house and picked him up, we then drove over to the Mcdowell Mountain Preserve to do my first Arizona ride of the holiday, the ride we did was not listed in any of the MTB guide books

We met up with Walt (another regular on the MTBR Arizona forum) at the trail head on 128th st.

We then set off riding right along the Ring Tail trail and then turned right on to the Sunrise trail and headed on up to the summit of sunrise, as Steve had only just ridden the flight of the Pigs ride a very long endurance race and Walt was punishing himself on a single speed I was able to scoot off in front of them, and had fun riding back down to them and then back up the trail again. The sunrise trail started off wide and rocky, but got narrower and smoother towards the top, with some tricky steep loose switch backs to make things interesting. We then rode back along some urban trails back to the SUV. Walt had to split early as he had x-mas stuff to prepare as we had not ridden that far yet, Steve suggested we ride back to his house for lunch. Click for large image

Steve then made me an excellent lunch of noodles and other good stuff, after lunch I cycled back to the SUV, taking in some different trails on the way back. In total I rode 28 miles, a great start to the holiday. Ring Tail MTB trail, Phoenix - Click for large image

In the evening I went shopping for food and found a great Natural food superstore called WildOats and bought myself provisions for the rest of my holiday.

I then had a search around on the internet to look for places to stay in flagstaff and found a special offer at a Fairfield inn there so I made a reservation for a couple of days there.

Then I had a look for Thanks giving sales on the internet and found that Beyond Bikes had a 20 % off sale on everything so I ordered up a Light & Motion Vega light and a new Cateye wireless computer and arranged to have them shipped to Steve's house as he had very kindly offered to let me ship anything I ordered to his place. The lights and computers worked out to be half the price I would have paid in England 8-)

I then had a swim and a relaxing soak in the hot tub and then hit the sack
