California Mountain Biking Holiday Autumn 2005

We decided to visit California for a holiday as we wanted a holiday where the weather would be warm and dry and the holiday would require very little forward planning. As we had already been to California several times in the past we knew exactly what to expect when we arrived.

The last time we visited Northern California we had been there in the spring of 1998, but this time we decided to go in the Autumn, as we wanted to ride up high at places like Tahoe & Mammoth Mt which were still snow bound the last time we visited.

We had a great holiday in California, we were very lucky with the weather as it did not rain on us once while we where out there, and we only suffered a few minor injuries on our travels, surprisingly the worst injury's occurred not while biking, but while trail running.

In preparation for this holiday we booked up a direct flight to San Francisco with British Airways from London Heathrow, an SUV from Budget rent-a-car and the only Hotel reservation made before heading out was at an Embassy Suites hotel in San Rafael - Marin Country.

We planned a roughly circular route around Northern California, and managed to avoid having too many very long driving days, asides from when we drove from Mammoth to Fresno and Fresno To Salinas via Kings Canyon. Click to Enlarge
