Day 14 : Gallup to Flagstaff (Zuni Mtn's- MTB ride)

I checked out of the Hampton Inn early - while the bed had been very comfortable the brown water on the first night and the noisy ice machine outside my for meant I wouldn't consider coming back to this Hotel again.

Today I intended to go ride up at The Zuni Mtns again on some different trails and then drive to Flagstaff to see Tomas and maybe get another ride in.

I parked at the Quaking Aspen trail head and then crossed the road to ride along the Purple Haze trail which headed North to the Milk Ranch Trail head.

The purple Haze trail climbed up through some grass meadows and then into trees. And then headed back down again towards the road.

After crossing the road I climbed up the Mill Ranch trail till I came to a big dry river bed. There were lots of large crows circling on the thermals above the river bed.

As I would realise by the time I had got to the top , this trail would be much better going down, probably by riding up the Burma trail and then along quasimodo and then down the Mill ranch trail and then along the purple haze trail. Oh well you live and learn ... Zuni Mountains - Mountain bike singletrack ride

I then took the smoking handlebar trail which was nice and fast at times all the way back to Sheet Rock Tank. From there I took the Turkey Nest trail to the Y2K trail which I had to get to by climbing through a barbwire fence. The Y2K trail was fun and had views of some grass wetlands in places. The Y2k trail eventually came back onto the quaking aspen trail which I took back to the SUV. Zuni Mountains - Mountain bike singletrack ride Zuni Mountains - Mountain bike singletrack ride

The ride had been alright but not a great ride , I should have taken up Tomas's offer to stay another night at his place and ride down at flagstaff.

After packing up my bike I started the 185 mile drive to Flagstaff

It was long dull drive on dead straight roads to Flagstaff, I stopped along the was a Loves garage to fuel up.

When I got to Flagstaff it was a bit too late to go for a ride , so I went shopping with Heather (Tomas's wife) to buy steaks and other food for an evening meal with one of their friends.

When we got back Tomas cooked the steaks out on his barbie

The food and company was great, and after dinner I made a start on packing up my bike.
